Abstract New Malaysian Code of Corporate Governance 2017 was released by Securities Commission Malaysia in April 2017 with greater emphasis and encouragement on the internalization of corporate governance culture. This study assesses the CG practices of AirAsia and how the new MCCG impact on the disclosure with comparison to prior years on the quality and credibility of the new MCCG. This study further examines the compliance level of low-cost carriers in Southeast Asia countries towards the corporate governance best practice. It also aims to assess the attentions and types of engagements given to the stakeholders and confidence of stakeholders in the quality of the company’s corporate governance. Several samples of low-cost carriers in Southeast Asia countries was selected. This study contributes to the assessment of the quality of corporate governance in airlines industry as seen through the airlines efforts in adopting and committed to the best practice of corporate governance code. The data collected and the statistical results proved the findings. Overall, the study reveals that AirAsia and others low cost airlines in Southeast Asia countries comply to the corporate governance code of best practices. Recommendations on disclosures were made based on best practices which could help in further improving the company. Besides, findings also indicate that the three principles of the code of corporate governance were implemented and complied with good level of compliance. Stakeholders objectives were met from corporate governance perspectives via the embracing of concept of sustainability, leadership, integrity, and transparency. Corporate governance aids in having a comprehensive approach in responding to the rapid challenges in the airline industry and ensure having sufficient stakeholders’ confidence towards the business. This is essential for an organization to be able to excel and achieve the business goals besides carry out its fundamental responsibilities.
