The gender gap in corporate leadership-why are there so few women in top management / Lee Lai Meng
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the reasons why there are so few women in the top management and what are the barriers and blocking the female employees to climb up the corporate ladder. The study also revealed that most female employees are ambitious to grow further in their career path, unlike what the male managers think that female employees have higher priority for family therefore would not like to take up more responsibility from work. Gender-biased mind-set is one of the critical obstacles hindering female employees from moving upwards. In the study, short-term and long-term solutions that the organisations could implement in order to help and support their female employees to be able to stay more focus at work thus contribute more. By creating a gender diversity working environment, it would help in retaining female talents in the organisations.
