Title Work life balance behavior among millennial generation or generation Y in relation to their productivity / Menega Ratha.
Abstract In today competitive market condition, employee productivity are being the major concern. Organisations are constantly looking into various methods that could retain their workforce especially the younger Generation namely Millennials Generation, constituting the majority of workforce population. The main problem noted is the lack of productivity among the Millennials Generation or Generation Y. In addition, the youngest workforce generation are leaving organizations in growing numbers after just a few years of working. These Millennials Generation have a high demand on work life balance culture. The ultimate objective of this research is to understand the factors that influence the productivity among the workforce especially the Millennials Generation. The findings from this study will be able to help us to determine the motivating factors of Generation Y or Millennials in order to secure their productivity. Based on the literature review, five fundamental factors that influence employee productivity has been identified. Those factors are Balance and Workload; Engaging Work, Development and Opportunities; People and Teams and Working Environment; Competitive Pay and Job Opportunities and Work Life Balance Behavior. Based on these, several hypotheses have been formed to understand the significance of these factors in relation to employee productivity. Cross sectional study was used as a research methodology for this research study. Data was collected by using the primary data collection method by leveraging on questionnaire survey. Google Form has been used to design the questionnaire and social medias and email distribution have been used to obtain the responses. Survey has been distributed to 200 sample population and resulted in 83.5% response rate as 167 respondents have participated in the survey, majority from Millennials Generation. The data gathered from the questionnaire survey was analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) software. Few analytical tools have been used such as Pearson’s Correlations, Kaiser – Meyer – Olkin (KMO) measure, Cronbach’s Alpha reliability tests, Bartlett Measure of Sphericity, ANOVA and Linear Regression. Based on the tests performed, it has been confirmed that all the variables identified do have positive relationship in regard to the employee productivity. Last but not least, through this research study, the research objectives and questions have been answered. In addition, the factors identified has also shown positive influence in related to employee productivity, thus management can focus on implementing ideas that related to this variables especially the work life balance culture. In short, Work life balance behavior among Millennial Generation or Generation Y do have positive impact in relation to their productivity.
