Abstract
|
The primary aim of the study is to explore teachers’ perceptions towards the integration of Information Communications Technology (ICT) in their teaching. This study specifically focuses on ESL teachers’ perceptions, attitude towards the use of ICT and the challenges they have while teaching English using ICT in Malaysian schools. Teachers’ motivational factors on the use of ICT are explored both in Private and in Government schools. Previous studies have informed us of the factors that are external to teaching can also impact the use of ICT and hence the support provided by administrative staff is explored in this study.
Findings from surveys and interviews reveal that generally, teachers are interested in using ICT but certain pertinent factors become barriers when they want to use ICT. Findings reveal that administrative support and efficiency will support teachers’ usage of ICT. Teachers’ knowledge of the use of ICT (specific components) was explored. Teachers’ perceptions were explored on the significance of the use of ICT and integration of ICT in classroom teaching.
