Title Factors influencing job satisfaction of medical doctors working in health screening centers / Chin Lee Geat
Abstract BP healthcare group is a fast growing company which concentrates on health screening services. The company has been facing high doctor’s turnover rate with difficulties in recruiting doctors. This paper is designed to study factors affecting job satisfaction among doctors working in the health screening centers. It is intended to help the human resource department to find ways in improving the morale and satisfaction level of the doctors in the group and to help foster the design of better job packages for doctors. The researcher has proposed to study the job characteristics that lead to job satisfaction and dissatisfaction. A theoretical framework with 5 independent variables (job facets) and 1 dependent variable (job satisfaction) was formed based on the concept of two popular job motivation theories, which are the Job Characteristic Model (JCM) and the Herzberg 2-factor theory. A cross sectional study was conducted among doctors in the company through a self administered questionnaire. The results indicated that doctors’ satisfaction rate was generally in the modest range. They are most dissatisfied with their rewards scheme and career advancement opportunity. However, when tested statistically, there are two job determinants that are statistically significant for positive correlation with job satisfaction, namely work nature and career advancement opportunity. The demographic profiles of the respondents have no significant correlation with job satisfaction. A few strategic recommendations were put forward towards the end of the research paper.
