Factors determining restaurant and dining deals in Klang Valley : a case study of comparative group buying websites' sales in Malaysia / Tan Chee Weng
|
Abstract
|
The purpose of this study is to understand the factors determining the sales of restaurant and dining deals in Klang Valley from Group buying websites. It investigates the macro and micro determinants of the deals through development of ten hypotheses.
The study was carried out in 2 stages using observation and questionnaire methods. Data collected were later analyzed using SPSS. Multiple regression and correlation analysis were conducted to find if there is any significant relationship between the variables and independent variables.
The study finds significant relationships on the macro variables which is pricing, promotion durations and Facebook fans with the sales of the restaurant and dining deals. It also shows significant relationship between micro variable which is value for money and service quality with customer satisfaction and indirectly sales of the deals.
Most importantly, this study provides valuable insights and recommendation for restaurant merchants and Group buying operators to successfully utilize the Group buying platform to market and sell their products.
However, there were limitations to this study. The sample size is too small to provide a good representative of the Malaysia population. Furthermore, the study only limits to the Klang Valley population. Hence, it does not have a good representation of other states or region in the country.
It is recommended that future studies on this Group buying websites should explore other factors that may also affect the sales of the deal. For example, the usage of smartphone may have some influence towards the sales of the deals. Researchers may also want to explore other categories of Group buying deals such as electronic gadgets, beauty and travel related deals.
