Title A study determinants of third party logistics services in Northern Malaysia / Kanama Thiagarajan.
Abstract Third (3rd) Party Logistics is the services procured by company such as MNC, SME or logistics to outsource and manage the warehouse such as the company's fulfilment and distribution services. Third party logistics has been cited to reduce cost and facilitated flexible supply chain responsiveness. The evidence the core competencies between the determinants of 3PL selection has not been empirically established to relate the total value to the organization. Hence this research is carried out to identify what are the important factors that affect the Value of Third (3rd) Party Logistics and this study was done focusing on 44 organization in Northern Malaysia that engaged third party logistics. Analysis of data was made based on questionnaire survey returned by the respondents. Empirical analysis through multivariate regression on SPSS version 22.0 has been used to establish to the findings from this study. The empirical showed that factors of service level, operations control, rates and core competencies has positive influence the value of Third (3rd) Party Logistics at 5% significant level. This implied that logistic manager should has the highest focus on service level. Multiple Results also showed that operations control and service level are the significant when all these factors grouped as a model. Operations manager should strive to influence the customers on the benefits of system and technology advancement to their customers. This study also proved that core competencies comprised of meeting customer value, competitive advantage and meeting diversified customer expectation intervene the impact of the these factors towards value. This imply that the hypotheses is proven for the service level has the highest influence followed by operations control and rates identified as the factors bringing value to Third (3rd) Party Logistics . System and Technology were not so much of the factor which influence the value of Third (3rd) Party Logistics even though it does make a huge value and visibility. This study had shown that companies are satisfied with their providers’ performance however there are still expectation for service providers to improve. In general, many companies believes that outsourcing brings benefits and positive impact to firms.
