The study on balanced scorecard implementation in SME organizations within IT sector / Ong Chong Chiang
|
Abstract
|
This study extends the understanding on the prospective and positive impacts of
Balanced Scorecard (BSC) implementation in small and medium sized enterprises
(SMEs) within the Information Technology (IT) sector. Papers and past researches were
reviewed to identify the related issues for the basic study of the research. The
perceptions in the targeted SME IT organization and also their acceptance to use BSC
approach to measure their performance were studied. To substantiate the research work,
an interview was conducted with a Project Manager to seek information from the
perspective of a performance assessor. On the other side, survey questionnaires were
distributed to selected groups of employees who hold different positions in the
organization. The research findings show that the employees are not aware on BSC and
their existing performance measurement system does not clearly show the
communication of the top business strategy to the lower sub departments. The
suggestion to put BSC performance measurement framework in the organization
received positive acceptance among the employees and scorecards for individual
employee, project and organization with the cascading of strategy objectives into BSC
perspectives in an IT organization is outlined as well.
