Title A study on the impact of accelerated reader program towards year four students' reading perspective, reading attitude and its effectiveness / Mui Hui Theng.
Abstract One of the most concerning issue in today's society is to be able to read proficiently. Reading is a fundamental skill to explore and discover new happenings around the world. Many educators are looking for ways and strategies to promote and enhance reading skills of the students. In this study, the reading program, Accelerated Reader (AR), is examined. As AR has not been introduced to public schools nationwide, AR is examined in an international school in Penang. The study aims to identify the impact of AR towards students' reading perspective, reading attitude, by surveying 33 Year Four students; and interviewing the teachers who implement the program to investigate its effectiveness. This mixed method study integrated both quantitative and qualitative research methods. The data were analysed and indicated that the students have a positive perspective and attitude towards reading using AR, and AR is an effective reading program that can track students' reading progress.
