Title A study on the decision making of e-commerce system outsourcing in Malaysia / Teoh See Kiat
Abstract This study investigates the causes and factors that lead the individual and companies to make the decision of E-commerce system outsourcing. This research examines whether the variables from the dimensions of reasons for IT outsourcing, constrains and barriers in setting up E-commerce system, and perceived benefits and advantages of IT outsourcing can influence the individual and companies to make the decision to outsource their E-commerce system. 48 respondents out of 100 survey questionnaires had been distributed. Three propositions were proposed and statistical analysis tests had been conducted to examine the relationship between the variables from each propositions dimensions and the decision of E-commerce system outsourcing. The test results suggested that only 11 out of 13 variables from the dimension of reasons for IT outsourcing had statistically significant association with the E-commerce system outsourcing decision. Meantime, 5 out of 11 variables of the constraints and barriers in setting up E-commerce system were significant associated with the decision of outsourcing the E-commerce system. In the same time, 11 out of 12 variables from the dimension of perceived benefits and advantages of IT outsourcing had significant association with the decision to outsource the E-commerce system. The findings of this study provide valuable insights that cost saving, company overall performance and the effectiveness in resource distribution are the major aspects in the dimension of reasons for IT outsourcing that can influence the outsourcing decision. Besides, the aspect of expertise skills and knowledge, technological issues and information security risks can influence the outsourcing decision from the dimension of constraints and barriers in setting E-commerce system. Meantime, obtaining the better performance from E-commerce system outsourcing, cost reduction, flexibility and the better technology, quality and expertise from the outsourcing vendors are the influences to the E-commerce system outsourcing decision in the dimension of perceived benefits and advantages of IT outsourcing. This study indicates the directions and focus areas that the outsourcing vendors should focus to improve and strengthen in order to attract and convince the customers to outsource their E-commerce system. This study also provides the references to the individual and companies and helps them to make a more precise decision for the E-commerce system plan.
