Abstract
|
Motivation is vital to the survival of an organization and it is widely recognized that motivation has an impact on employee. Motivated employees are more likely to be committed to the job and work more effectively. Examining the relationship between motivation and predictors, i.e. leadership style, stress, demographic characteristics and the moderating effects of leader-member exchange (LMX) from a sample of 157 employees in the utility provider sector it was found that transformational leadership style affect employees’ work motivation. Stress shows no correlation with motivation but assumption made that employees have their own organizational way of coping with work stress. Demographic characteristics, particularly age, have influence in the employees’ work motivation level regardless of gender. Lastly, LMX moderates the link between leadership style and work motivation. The leader-member relationship is apparent with transformational leadership style, while there are no relationship between work motivation and transactional leadership style as well as benevolent leadership style.
