Title Factors influencing student’s enrolment in Diploma in Accounting (DIA) programme : a case study of a local College in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. / Kevin Voon Jan Sian
Abstract The number of private colleges in Malaysia is increasing by the year and students are spoilt for choice on which colleges to attend after their high school. This increasing competition has led to a lower number of actual enrolments versus forecasted number of enrolments in KSK in the past few semesters. KSK will be able to increase the number of enrolment if they focus and improve on the main factors influencing student enrolment. As such, the main purpose of this research project is to find out the main factors influencing student’s enrolment in DIA in KSK. This project research also aims find out the main methods used by students to find out more information about KSK before deciding to enrol in KSK. The survey instrument chosen by the Researcher is self-administered questionnaire, using five-point Likert scale. The test of validity and reliability yielded a Cronbach’s Alpha of 0.85, KMO of 0.63 and Bartlett’s Test of 0.00. These questionnaires were administered to participants in the month of April 2017. A number of 101 students took part in the questionnaire. Students were chosen randomly. Data obtained from the questionnaires were analysed using SPSS version 19. Factor analysis was performed to analyse the findings, with relevant pie charts and tables to aid the explanation process. Results revealed that top three factors influencing student enrolment in KSK are “Facilities”, “Reputation and Achievement” and “Financial aid”. It was also revealed that the top three methods used by students to find out more information about KSK was by using “KSK brochures / leaflet”, “KSK website” and “KSK Open Day events”. Finally, four practical recommendations were made on how KSK can increase their enrolment in future semesters.
