Case study on productivity level of home-based employees in XYZ Company, Singapore / Tang Pooi Yoong

Abstract
|
To retain talents, XYZ Company* had introduced a home based employee (HBE) arrangement for its global sales division 6 years ago. Over time, there were concerns expressed on the HBE productivity level and this study was initiated to address these concerns, on top of identifying the next step forward on this program. From literature studies, 3 key independent variables of working environment, leadership management style and work- life balance were identified to having possible impacts on HBE productivity. Via a carefully crafted questionnaire, the survey was activated with 100% completed responses received. Post data collection, descriptive analyses had provided better understanding on existing HBE profile and this had fulfilled 1 of the research objectives. The survey respondents had provided inputs that helped to establish the relationship between the independent variables with HBE productivity. The strength of relationships for each variables was tested and the findings both fulfilled the other research objectives on top of enabling for prioritisation of XYZ Company next course of actions. As working environment and work- life balance are immediate opportunity areas for improvements and with established positive correlation, XYZ Company was recommended to first focus on them. Further studies to provide deeper understanding were suggested and this recommendation had taken into consideration the research limitations identified.
