Abstract
|
The purpose of the research of this survey is investigating difficulties in English language oral communication among tertiary students. An investigation was carried out at Wawasan Open University, Johor Bahru reginal office. With this survey we can find out the opinions, suggestions and learning journey of tertiary students. With the data collected from students, hopefully the school can make some adjustment to cater to those students who encounter problems regarding their learning of English language. The objectives of this study is to collect data of undergraduates’ perceptions with regards to the issues of their learning of English orally. Secondly, to examine undergraduates experiences regarding their learning journey of oral English. The last objective is to determine suggestions from undergraduates for teaching and learning of English language orally.
Quantitative approaches were applied for this research by using questionnaires to get feedbacks from respondents. 30 students responded to the questionnaires distributed for the research purpose. The findings of this research were to explore agreements of difficulties faced by tertiary students of communicating in English language. The students’ suggestions on how they felt they could improve their English language were also included in the questionnaires. The results of this research indicated that most respondents agreed that English oral communications was important to them. School and tutors had to work hand in hand to create a better learning environment to communicate in English. Students had to be self-motivated to improve their levels of English in many ways and methods.
