Title Factors affecting local content mobile application adoption : an empirical study in Klang Valley / Lai Yin Wai @ Lee, Yin Wai
Abstract Purpose of this research paper is to examine the determinant factors of smartphone users to adopt local content mobile applications within Klang Valley. Three research models were applied to understand the key determinants and its underlying factors were selected in accordance to the objective of this research. This includes perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use from Technology Acceptance Model. Followed by attitude and perceived behavioral control derived from both theory of reasoned action and theory of planned behavior. An additional factor was included to test on privacy concern by means of perceived credibility and another factor on the test of willingness to pay for the use of such mobile application using perceived cost factor. These factors all make up to total 6 hypotheses to be tested with a proposed theoretical framework. Data collection method used is by mean of snowball using online questionnaires distributed via social network on internet. This returned with 158 respondents with all valid and useable questionnaires. The data collected was then subjected to various statistical tests to measure both demographic and also the hypotheses proposed using SPSS software (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences). First the demographic factors were tabulated by frequencies to assess the sample population by means of age, smartphone types and mobile application experience. Then, the second part of data analysis was focus on the testing of hypotheses using factor analysis, reliability test, normality and outlier analysis, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. The results from analysis indicated that all three factors; perceived behavioral control, perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use are the key determinants for local content mobile application adoption. Perceived cost result indicating that smartphone users are willing to pay for good and useful mobile application. However, attitude and perceived credibility were not having much significance impact in this study.
