Abstract
|
Objective of the study is to identify and provide a better understanding of factors that affects the performance of employees in Small and medium enterprises (SME). SMEs’ role in implementing positive measures to encounter possible factors such as stress, technology, components of human capital comprises of age, knowledge and employees commitment, and finally rewards and recognition in order to reduce the effect from these factors.
Design/methodology/approach-the study intends to increase the level of awareness of the
presence these factors and how these factors interact with each other to enable measures to be implemented to reduce the adverse effect of these factors.
Research limitations-questionnaires are being distributed among 7 SMEs with 51 respondents’
representing different background and position held. Some of the respondents feel hesitates to respond as fear they might lose their job and trustworthy.
Practical implications-there is a need for the SME itself to regularly review, monitor and evaluate its own performance. This is to ensure their competitiveness is well sustained and in
addition, employees’ development and progress are compatible and in line with the organization’s goals.
Findings-the data finds that employees’ performance is positively correlated with factors-stress, technology, rewards and recognition, age, knowledge and employees commitment
