Abstract
|
Mobile payment solutions such as Maybank Pay and Samsung Pay have been launched in Malaysia in 2016 as part of the innovations under the Fintech sector. The main purpose of this study is to unravel the level of awareness of the use of mobile wallets among the smartphone users in Malaysia and to investigate the factors influencing the use of mobile wallets for cashless payments. The quantitative strategy is employed by using a survey questionnaire. The survey questionnaire is distributed via the mobile social apps such as WhatsApp and Wechat. SPSS is used to perform descriptive analysis, reliability analysis, factor analysis and regression analysis. In addition, AMOS is used to carry out confirmatory factor analysis. The results indicates the majority of the respondents are aware the availability of the mobile wallets in Malaysia. There are only 31.1 percent of those using the mobile wallets for payments. In addition, results show that performance expectancy and effort expectancy have the significant effects on the use of the mobile wallets for cashless payments. Overall, this study sheds some information on the awareness towards the use of mobile wallets among the smartphone users in Malaysia and the factors influencing the use of mobile wallets for cashless payments.
