Title Factors influencing employee's job satisfaction and job performance in Mahac Chemicals Sdn Bhd / Lai Choo
Abstract In this study, an examination of the factors that influence job satisfaction and performance of the employees will be conducted. To achieve this objective, several main factors were examined, i.e. good teamwork, motivation, job design, leadership, salary and others. In addition, the study aimed to explore at what extent the employees are committed to their job and satisfied with their job. Employee satisfaction and performance have been an increasing concern to both employees and employers over the years. In the last five years, work satisfaction has assumed greater importance for employers as their risk for additional staff costs in terms of absenteeism, turnover, low productivity and performance. Using individual employee data from the company, covering all the employees, this study aimed at contributing to our understanding of the effects of employee performance and job satisfaction. The estimation results show that a higher involvement of workers in job performance is associated with higher job satisfaction. This positive effect is dominated by higher autonomy over how to perform their tasks, and increased communication with co-workers. Some of the limitations encountered in the course of undertaking the research need to be mentioned here. First, since our purpose is to analyse our company, Mahac Chemicals Sdn Bhd, using a small population (30 respondents) may not represent the general industry’s perception. However, due to time and funding constraints, the selection of 30 respondents is justifiable.Second, the study used a forced choice survey instrument. The respondents were not free to state their views on the questions but had to select from a number of answers provided. Thus, it means that some of the answers may not accurately represent the point of view of respondents but the most closely related view point. The third limitation of this research is the fact that the collection of data took place at a particular point in time. There is no guarantee that the responses received would be indicative of responses solicited and given at another time. Thus, we are not sure whether the results of the res earch can be repeat ed by the res earcher or some other res earcher s . The fourth limitation is whether the respondent will answer the questions honestly and reflect their individual opinion, behavior and performance. The respondents may be too embarrass to reveal their weaknesses in the questionnaires. The results of this study are based on a quantitative investigation of employee’s job satisfaction and job performance. The purpose of this study is to uncover the causal factors for employee’s job satisfaction, the relationship between job satisfaction and job performance and to propose measures to increase the level of job satisfaction. The study focused on primary and secondary data. The secondary data was collected from academic journals, books and websites. As for primary data, it was collected from the 30 employees.
