Abstract
|
This research paper studies the impact of distributed leadership on academic in primary schools in Ipoh City.This research seeks to study the impact of distributed on academic performance based on the dimensions of vision, mission and goals, school culture, shared responsibility and leadership practices. A review of the various literatures on this subject had shown that distributed leadership practices and also studies on demographic characteristics and their relationship with distributed leadership. A theoretical model was developed to show the relationship between distributed leadership and academic performance. This research was conducted through survey-questionnaires that were distributed to teachers from various schools in Ipoh City. A quantitative analysis was conducted through Pearson’s correlation coefficient, one-way ANOVA and also the independent T-test. The results gathered were on the teachers’ perception towards the practice of distributed leadership in their respective schools and its impact on academic performance. This research concluded that distributed leadership had an impact on academic performance and that the dimension of leadership had the most crucial in its impact on pupils’ academic performance.There were no significant relationship between demographic characteristics and the practice of distributed leadership in primary schools. Work experience had also shown to have no impact on pupils’ academic performance.After consolidating the findings, some recommendations were made for this leadership style to be practised more extensively in primary schools.The entire project had taken about five months to complete beginning January 2014.
