Title The influence of psychological, innovation factors and innovation resistance toward mobile learning acceptance. / Chay Foo Soon
Abstract This study examines the factors influencing university learners’ innovation resistance and intention to accept mobile learning by developing an integrated model that combines Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), Model of Innovation Resistance (MIR) and Status Quo Bias (SQB). In the research model, learners’ psychological factors (inertia and perceived self-efficacy), innovation factors of mobile learning (perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use) are included. A cross-sectional and survey data has been collected from 212 learners from Wawasan Open University (Kuala Lumpur Regional Center) through self-administered questionnaires. The data has been collected by convenient sampling technique. SPSS version 21 and SmartPLS version 3.0 have been used for the descriptive and inferential data analysis respectively. The findings reveal that perceived usefulness, perceived self-efficacy and inertia have direct effect on innovation resistance. Inertia appears to be the strongest antecedent of innovation resistance. Further, innovation resistance shows a negative significant relationship with intention to accept mobile learning. Moreover, perceived usefulness and inertia indirectly influence intention to accept mobile learning through the mediator of innovation resistance. Based on these findings, the theoretical and methodological contributions are described. The valuable practical implications and limitations of study are discussed. Finally a conclusion and suggestions for future research are addressed.
