In the efforts of rising the number of accountants in the country is embedded with the role of mentoring which targeting on quantity and quality of accountants. Previous empirical studies have attempted to indentify factors related to the choice of accounting as a career path. Accounting faces a perilous future and that “accounting education environment cries out for action.” The recent changes in the business environment, declines in both the quantity and quality of accounting graduates are the major problems and we can see the necessity to further analyze and update these previous studies. New research in the area may provide clues as to the cause(s) of the declines in both quantity and quality of accounting graduates. The new research are able to find out whether factors found previously to be important predictors of choosing accounting as a career path continue to be important. The study was conducted in a qualitative way using face to face interview with 16 accounting students from a local private higher learning institution. It has been discovered that the factors affecting students’ career choice of accounting are numerous but they can group into peer influences, career opportunity, personal interest, expected reward and working environment. The findings could help accounting academics, parents, and counselors to develop appropriate strategies to attract proper students into accounting programs and to recruit bright accounting graduates into the accounting profession.
