Title The similarities and differences between the delivery of the English curriculum in a private national primary school and an international primary school in standard four and year five in Malaysia / Vanessa Jane Woodruff
Abstract Curriculum is delivered in a Private National Primary School and an International Primary School in Standard 4 and Year 5. This study also sets out to explore the cognitive, socio and affective development of the children as an outcome of the curriculum delivery in both schools. The research design that is used to carry out this study is a comparative educational research design. The four Respondents in this study have been selected to take part through purposive sampling. The data has been collected from five sources namely in depth interviews, classroom observations, document analysis, pupil data records and activity task 1 and 2 and has been analysed using content analysis. The data collected has been substantiated through the in depth interviews and the classroom observations. The findings in this study have been established through thematic analysis and it has been found that the delivery of the English curriculum in the two schools shares some similarities as well as certain differences. The cognitive, socio and affective development of the children in both schools has been shown to be influenced by the delivery approach of the English curriculum as well as the mother tongue, family background and socio economic situation. The implications from the findings in this study indicate that the different emphasis placed on the cognitive, socio and affective skills of the children in the two schools leads to the different development of the children. In conclusion it is therefore important that the curriculum in its delivery places equal importance on the development of each of these three skills to produce balanced individuals.
