The purposes of this study are to examine the use of visual aids to encourage second language learners in learning vocabulary and to identify teachers’ perception towards using visual aids in teaching vocabulary. The sample consisted of ten English teachers and ten students in a Primary School in Ipoh. Interview was used as the primary source of data collection. In addition, observations were conducted by the researcher to observe the vocabulary lessons presented by the teacher respondents. The results of the study reveal that visual aids were effective in encouraging second language learners in learning vocabulary. It was also found that teachers have positive perception towards using visual aids in teaching vocabulary.
