Abstract
|
In Dec 2012, Malaysia telecom regulator Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) revealed that eight local companies was awarded the access to the wireless spectrum band for Long Term Evolution (LTE) also known as 4G. 4G LTE is often known as the successor of 3G, due to the capacity of the offering faster broadband speed 10 times faster than the traditional wireless broadband. The purpose of this study is to examine the factors influencing High Speed LTE 4G Wireless Broadband adoption in Malaysia. The exploratory study is based on 122 respondents with usable questionnaires via online and face to face surveys during September and October 2013. Findings show that major factors influencing the subscribers’ intention to adopt Wireless 4G broadband services are specific value added services i.e. over the top applications specifically in the area of instant messaging communication whatsapp, skype, viber and social networking communication like facebook among family and friends. In the survey, users also agree the popularity of internet broadband usage are due to increase of popularity music and video download such as YouTube, bit torrent, spotify etc. This survey suggests that users will adopt Wireless 4G broadband services if the service provider offers a value for money monthly data rate plan to ensure service affordability. In addition, implication and direction for future research are discussed.
