Abstract
|
Currently, Malaysia's electoral authoritarian system is increasing coming under pressure as observed from the recent elections' results. Political issues are always a major influence to the financial market. Henceforth, the main purpose of this study is to examine the existence of abnormal return at Bursa Malaysia during the latest six election periods (1990-2013). Finding reveled that cumulative abnormal returns (CARs) are significant for the abservation windows. Meanwhile, the mean for (CAR) during the post-election period appears to be higher as compared to pre-election period. However, each separate election in 1995 and 2004. Industrial, and Trade/Services are the two sectors that were found to have highest number of company experiencing CAR exceeding by Toh G.G. and Hooy C.W. (2010). Despite the magnitude of the CARs derived from this study is not excessive, The study has implications to institustional investors as their decision making are more sensitive to market volatility.
