The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors that lead to the retention of first line managers in a heavy metal fabrication industry. Instead of looking at what triggers turnover, this study seeks to identify the reasons why the employees want to stay on with an organisation. Through past studies, nine factors have been identified and tested. Data were collected from a sample of eight heavy metal fabrication companies in a heavy industrial area in Pusing, Perak. The overall results supported the formulated hypothesis and went on to show the main areas that contribute to retention comparing it the areas that do not have significant effect. This study would help higher management in their human resource procedures and retention strategies to enhance the organisational effectiveness and decision making.
