Mobile banking acceptance level of adult Malaysian consumers in Penang / Chu Chun Wai
|
Abstract
|
The delivery channel for local banking services have gone through several
innovative phrases. Mobile banking has emerged as a new potentially industry
transforming technology that may change the way consumers interact with their
financial service institutions. Users are able to access banking accounts and use
financial services such as transaction history checking, money transfer, bill payments
via portable communication devices. This research project aimed to examine the five
dimensions (namely Perceived Ease of Use, Perceived Usefulness, Risk/Security,
Financial Cost/Benefit, and Compatibility) that influence Penang consumers’
intention to use mobile banking. Convenience sampling was applied in data
collection. Adopted questionnaire based on Technology Acceptance Model (TAM)
was distributed through email and paper form to Flextronics Sdn. Bhd. and Maybank
(Ong Yi How branch)’s participants. The results of analysis were very interesting.
Respondents are neutral in term of their intention to use mobile banking. Male
consumers are more likely to accept the five dimensions as compared with female
consumers. Bivariate analysis shows there is a strong and significant positive
relationship between Intentional Behavioural towards using mobile banking and the
Perceived Ease of Use, Perceived Usefulness, Risk/ Security and Compatibility.
However, result shows no relationship between Behavioural Intention to use mobile
banking and the Financial Cost/ Benefit. Multiple regression analysis has revealed
that Risk/ Security is the key dimension of acceptable level towards Behavioural
Intention to use mobile banking. The mobile banking penetration in Penang state is
potentially high due to it has not captured the general public’s attention.
