Abstract
|
This is an empirical study on the factors influencing patients’ satisfaction that leads to
choice of hospitals. Five independent variables such as medical facilities and services,
accessibility, administrative services, reputation and environment were examined on
their impact on patients’ satisfaction. Data were collected randomly from patients in
one government and six private hospitals in Penang. A total 148 respondents
participated in the self-administered questionnaires. Demographic analysis showed
that age and income level influences the choice of hospital. Results showed that
sociodemographic variables such as age and income level affect the choice of hospital
significantly. Those in younger or middle age group and higher income group tend to
choose private hospitals for medical treatment. All the independent variables
investigated showed significant impact on patients’ satisfaction. These variables were
medical facilities and services, accessibility, administrative services, reputation and
environment. The results imply that the choice of hospital is influenced by
sociodemographic variables and hospital attributes
