Abstract
|
Online shopping has change the way of consumer shopping behavior as they have
greater power of purchasing, sourcing of information and able to shop from
anywhere and anytime. The development of technology and internet penetration in
Malaysia is rapid and huge has encourages the bloom of the e-commerce era. Due to
the advantage of lower operating cost and setup convenience, e-commerce has
lower entry barrier compared to brick and mortar which makes the e-business
environment very competitive and challenging to survive and grow. Hence, it is
important to understand the consumer’s online shopping behavior in order to increase
market share, market penetration by creating better online shopping experience. This
study examine if the demographic and online behavior of the online shopper and
issue and area of concern while shopping online do contribute to the online shopping
characteristic and the finding shows that it is positive. Quantitative research
technique is used for this study where questionnaire is distributed to random online
shopper in Malaysia. 5-point Likert scale is used for measuring the interval,
frequency distribution analysis, Cronbach’s alpha, factor analysis and Pearson Chisquare
test using SPSS are used for analyzing the collected data. The findings of
this study will help entrepreneur to have an idea on how to start an e-business by
suggesting the appropriate target market to focus, commodity to sell, features and
services to provide and also online shopping issue that should be well taken care of.
Due to the limitation of respondent and time, extended study could be done on each
non-dependent variable with more respondent, online shopping behavior with
different devices such as via mobile phone and also on online shopping behavior on
different type of business model such as B2B and C2C business.
