Abstract
|
Employee retention is a workforce management issue that faced by most of the organizations. High employee turnover will cost a lot to the organizations. Therefore, employee retention is a critical issue to tackle in order to help the organizations achieve performance goals. The purpose of the study is to find out the factors that influence employee retention. Base on the literature review, six independent variables (superior-subordinates relationship, work-life balance, training and development, benefits and compensations, employee commitment and career advancement) were identified for the study to find out their correlation with the dependent variable (employee retention). From the literature reviews, it was found that all the independent variables are positively related to the dependent variable. Data collected from the cross-sectional method through questionnaire survey were analyzed. The questionnaire consists of the dependent variable and independent variables related questions. The respondents were fifty-one employees who work at electronics manufacturing firms in Penang. The firms were multinationals companies which include Intel, Altera, Motorola, Bosch, Clarion and others. From the result analysis, all the six independent variables are positively correlated to dependent variable. Career advancement has the highest correlation value with employee retention which means that it is the most significant factor that can

affect employee retention. It is suggested that managers or superiors should take necessary actions or initiatives with the cooperation from the human resource in the effort of retaining employees.
