Abstract This study used sequential explanatory mixed methods research to describe the relationship between differentiated reading instructional strategies and students‟ readiness, interest and learning profiles and teachers‟ views on differentiated instruction as an effective tool in teaching reading comprehension. The quantitative step involved gathering data regarding students learning traits using MI Excel Survey and the qualitative step involved gathering information from observation of teachers implementing differentiated reading instruction in the classes and interviews conducted with the two teacher participants. Chapter two in this study shows a review by professional literature on differentiated strategies supported by multiple intelligences of theory of learning. Chapter three shows the instruments employ to gather data to answer research questions using survey, observation and interviews. Chapter 4 revealed the findings based on survey on students‟ types of intelligence and both the observation and interviews findings were coded using thematic analysis to answer the research questions. Chapter five discussed the significant of this study in implementing differentiated instruction in ESL classroom and challenges teachers met while using differentiate reading instruction in ESL classroom. Differentiated Instruction is seen as the main educational classroom delivery to meet the different needs of students which allow English language teachers to utilise the learning ability of students regardless of their differences. Therefore, with such diversity portrayed in schools, adopting one particular teaching method is not sufficient. Teachers must not wait for learners to adapt the lessons they plan, instead they need to plan their lessons to adjust to learners‟ diversity. Differentiated instruction is an approach that does just this. It helps teachers to meet the need of each child in a class and help them progress in their educational path (Levy, 2008).
