Abstract
|
This research is carried out to investigate the improvement in the standard of living of Malaysians today as compared to 30 years ago. The gap of 30 years was chosen instead of 50 years as the current generation and the generation of the parents would be about 30 years and the country is still relatively young at less than 60. It is also to coincide with the numerous economic policies set in place by the government and resulting in rapid development thereby enabling the measurement in terms of the increase of earning and development in terms of infrastructure that contributed to improving the quality of life of most of the citizens. The main objective of this study is to gauge the gap between the perceptions about the standard of living of the public compared to the report from the government. This study also examine if the purchasing power of the people has grown in tandem with the growth of the country as well as to investigate the disparity of growth between the different areas. This study also made recommendations with regard to the issue of subsidy in order to ensure that the primary goal of subsidy which was to assist the poor can achieve the aim more efficiently.
