Abstract
|
English is the lingua franca of the world with over 98% of the research paper written in English and this encouraged most of the developing nations like China, South Korea and the Middle East to adopt and education policy towards encouraging their citizens to learn English. As a result, many English teachers were in demand and embarked for overseas assignment. This research project attempts to connect Hofstede’s Intercultural Dimension namely, the Power of Distance, Uncertainty Avoidance, Individualism and Collectivism, Masculine and Feminism and Time Orientation with the cultural competence which is used by the educators who were identified to possess essential traits contributing to their success in teaching abroad. The results indicate that most of the educators conducted research prior to their overseas assignment using the Internet and a significant number of them adapted successfully in the new country. The study also explored the challenges that some educators faced and personal issues which is the most prevalent one that daunts the educators adjusting to the teaching life abroad.
