Title Employee perceptions of CSR / Rameeswarran a/l Sinniah.
Abstract Despite the vast research on the importance of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) on organizations, little is known on the perception of CSR from employee’s point of view. The overall image that emerges from literature suggests that employees reflect positively on their organizational behavior and performance through their involvement in particular organization’s socially responsible act and policies. This study recovers perception of about 100 employees from different departments and different levels of seniority within the Technology division of Digi Telecommunications, one of the well known organization championing CSR efforts in Malaysia. Employee’s perceptions were recorded through their participation in web based survey, whereby the questionnaire was divided into four different sections. Sections included demographic profile, employee’s perception of CSR in general, employee’s perception of Digi’s CSR efforts and employee’s perception of CSR towards their organizational behavior. Findings of the research showed that on average, employees have positive perception on CSR and its implications on their organizational behavior. Variations in perceptions existed among employees especially among new employees which is due to different levels of awareness on organization’s CSR related efforts and policies. Analysis also proved that there was no statistically significant difference in perceptions of employees from different levels of seniority. As such, the findings of this research is useful for decision makers in an organization in formulating employee related policies as it provides an insight to employee’s reaction and behavior towards awareness and involvement in CSR.
