Abstract
|
This paper aimed to study the factors affecting the success of lean practices and
performance of manufacturing company in northern Peninsula Malaysia. The study helps
company to know the factors affecting the successful implementation of lean practices.
After reviewing several literatures, it was observed that the factors affecting successful
lean practices can be grouped into three categories: tools, management commitment and
culture/thinking. Based on these concepts, researcher has proposed a theoretical
framework of lean practices and operational indicators. A survey was conducted among
manufacturing staffs and all necessary data and information were collected via
questionnaire. Interviews were also conducted to strengthen the quantitative data
collected. However, the study involved mainly quantitative analyses aimed at answering
the specific research questions framed in this paper. The results indicated that lean
practices may not increase the performance of the manufacturing company which was
explained by researcher. Some recommendation for future research to validate or revoke
the theoretical framework was suggested after consolidation of the research. Overall the
project took six months to complete.
