Teacher's job satisfaction in Penang / Foo Chuat Meng

Abstract
|
This study undertakes to investigate the job satisfaction and dissatisfaction between
teachers in the public and private sectors in Penang. Public schools cover both the
primary and secondary schools while the private school is secondary.
The study is to determine as to the similarity and differences in both the job satisfaction
and dissatisfaction between teachers in the public and private sectors.
Questionnaires were being used to collect data from 3 selected schools (i.e. two public
schools and one private schools. A population of 200 was initially selected and the
questionnaire was given to a primary, a secondary and a private school and out of the
number only 46 respondents co-operated by filling in the questionnaires. The data
collected was analysed with the use of SPSS. The results showed that teachers from
both the public and private sectors were satisfied with their job and did not rate salary
Majority of the respondents cited that the reduction in workload and paperwork could
help to improve their working environment so that criteria such as these can be looked
upon to make the teachers more satisfied with their job and bring about higher job
satisfaction and less dissatisfaction to boost productivity.
