Factors that contributed to the failure in implementation of the key result areas for TPSB/ Chan Chee Yien

Abstract
|
Many organizations are implementing performance measuring systems to gain the
benefits from them. Some has been successful while some failed due to various
reasons. This study focuses on one organization located in Johor which had
implemented the Key Result Area as one of the performances measurement system
but was not successful.
The objectives of the research study are to identify the key factors that contributed to
the Key Result Area implementation failure and to identify the consequences resulted
from the failure and to suggest solution and improvement plan to over come issues in
the failure. A questionnaire was designed based on literature review. The participants
were randomly selected to answer the questionnaire and data are collected and
analyzed using SPSS software.

The main findings revealed that factors contributed are; lack of regular review, no
detailed training, no IT support, no Balanced Scorecard software to assist and the
design of the Key Result Areas system was too complicated. However, the
implication of these findings was valid during the time of the study and it cannot be
generalized as it was only conducted on one organization. Recommendations were
made for the overcoming of the problems found. One of the recommendations is that a
comprehensive training scheme shall be targeted at the executive group, the IT
department and personnel who will be fully involved in the implementation process
including the purchasing of software tools and also for the organization to provide
close supervision during the implementation process.
