Abstract
|
This study investigated whether learners exposed to songs with music would experience a change in vocabulary acquisition compared to those exposed to the traditional approach. The research is intended to find relief for academicians, lecturers and students on the solution for a better way to learn and remember more English words. To fulfil this purpose, 75 Tahfiz students were selected from a state government Tahfiz Institution in Ipoh, Perak. These participants were conveniently assigned, they were then divided into two randomly sampled groups of experimental and control. The study was carried out in a period of one month. A gap-filling test based on the songs was administered to both treatment and control group. Data was gathered through a post-test result and computed using the SPSS statistical software. The result was computed by using the Mann- Whitney U test and the test of frequency. According to the results, there is a significant difference between the 2 groups. However, the result shows a contradicting idea on the usage of music during learning vocabulary, thus the null hypothesis is accepted. The significant difference of the mean is not to support the treatment group but otherwise.
