Abstract
|
Increasing trend of engineers to change career outside engineering profession has potential issue in developing country like Malaysia. In a survey done by The Engineer in 2015, almost half of UK engineers consider career change. The purpose of this study is to investigate the causes of change in career path of engineering profession. Total five influencing factors are studied: appreciation level by employer, work load, sense of belonging, challenging work and career advancement opportunity. Data analysis and findings shows that these factors except challenging work are significant related to career change decision. All of them having positive relationship with career change decision. Among those factors, the findings denoted that appreciated level by employer has the greatest influence. Essentially, the research presents recommendations for organization’s management to improve four significant factors in order to create positive working environment and in turn for the retention of valuable human resources. This study also shown that demographic profile of respondents does not influence career path change decision.
