Title Feasibility study on e-learning implementation among workers in Contract Manufacturing (CM) Industry in Penang / Nooraliza Binti Amir.
Abstract Utilization of electronic learning technologies and applications in business setting has increased rapidly. International organizations, as well as local companies, allocate more resources to personnel development by using E-Learning trainings. E-Learning provides cost effective training possibilities and therefore it gives a good opportunity for employees to gain knowledge regardless of place and time. E-Learning projects in several industries have achieved significant cost and capacity savings, partly because this method of delivery can cover a large number of people in a short period of time. Therefore, companies operating in the fast-paced industry such as the electric and electronic industry, are keen to know the critical success factors on E-Learning implementation before they make investment decisions. This research endeavors to explore the determinants that influencing the effectiveness of E-Learning implementation in Contract Manufacturing (CM) industry in Penang. There are five (5) determinants in this study, namely Employees’ Acceptance, Company Learning Culture, Technology and Infrastructure, e-Learning Content and Top Management Support. By integrating Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), the study tested the causal pathway of the factors that could predict the effectiveness of E-Learning implementation. The quantitative research method was applied for this study. Data from 78 out of 80 respondents in multinational companies in Penang (MNCs) with prior e-Learning experiences was obtained via survey method using Goggle form sent to respondents’ WhatsApp Messenger and email. The survey yield response rate is equivalent to 98 %. This feasibility study was conducted by applying in-depth IBM’s Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS version 22) analytics. The results were achieved by using Hierarchical Multiple Regression method so that rigidity of the results is academically accepted. The finding revealed that all five (5) determinants towards the effectiveness of ELearning implementation are at 5% significant level. The strongest predictors are Employees’ Acceptance, Company Learning Culture and Management Support. Technology and Infrastructure and e-Learning Content showed less significant towards the effectiveness of ELearning adoption but it was also strong predictors of intention to continue usage as hypothesized. Besides, the analysis on the demographics indicated that Types of Industry, Types of Company and Frequency used of e-Learning have a significant influence towards the e-Learning effectiveness. The value of this study lies in its effort to propose to practitioners that e-Learning requires substantial investment not only at the development and implementation phase but also the subsequent maintenance. The major limitation of this study is that it is narrow in scope as it has not included the study whether there are any significant perceptual differences in the importance of various criteria between employees and employers. Future research should continue to evaluate twodimensional studies to find the perceptual differences between both groups. The findings from this study meet the overall research objectives and provide solutions for the problem statements of insufficient in depth study, determining the best fit criteria and establishing an empirical model on the effectiveness of e-Learning implementation in Contract Manufactirng industry in Penang, Malaysia.
