Abstract
|
Private higher education institutions have to acquire a better understanding on students’ needs and wants, and also what their preferences in order to gain competitive advantage as the demand for private education increases. From past records, numerous studies on factors influencing open distance learning students’ selection of a university had been carried out. However, no researcher has attempts to do a comparison study among the factors that influence the adult learners’ decision in their choice of university when they wish to pursue their studies. This paper aims to identify factors that would have most influenced on the decision of working adults to enrol at Wawasan Open University (WOU) Ipoh. A self-developed questionnaire was designed and a total of 200 questionnaires were printed out in hardcopy and then distributed to WOU’s students. Convenience sampling method was applied in this research because the respondents were selected randomly among those who came for their tutorial classes. Out of the 200 questionnaires distributed, only 191 questionnaires were collected back by the researcher. Therefore, the response rate achieved in this survey was 96.0%. Descriptive analysis, reliability analysis and correlation analysis were conducted in this study. In conclusion, this study found that cost of education is the factor which most influenced working adult’s decision to enrol at WOU in Ipoh.
