Title Work life balance of shift workers and its significant impact towards sleeping disorder and weight issue in greater Kuala Lumpur / Kamal Syah Mohd Sarif
Abstract Work-life balance has always been a concern to whom that is interested in the quality of working life and its relation to broader quality of life. A single person may have a different priority in life to the ones that is married and have children of their own but this does not mean both does not require quality life. Shift work means an employee have to work outside the 9 to 5 working time so they need to accommodate their working time with other family members activities such as finding ways to send or pickup their children to or from school. And most of shift work involves working during weekends and making plans for family activities will be difficult. We will also look at the alternate work schedule (shifts) and how this will have an impact to work-life balance or more to work-life imbalance. As mentioned earlier that working shifts can have a negative health effect, for instance we will also look at sleeping disorder and gaining weight issues. In Malaysia we can look at the differences between the life-style of the Malays, Indians, Chinese and others and we can also break into several industries like IT industry, Hotel industry and health industry.
