Title An empirical study of factors influencing the hybrid car adaption in Malaysia / Chin Hing Lee.
Abstract This research paper intends to study how significant the six factors (price of the car, awareness of benefits of hybrid car, awareness of environmental issues, maintenance costs of the car, functionality and design of the car, and resale value and resale market of the car) have influenced customers‟ buying intention of hybrid cars in Malaysia. Three research questions and six hypotheses were formulated to reveal the relationship between each of the factors and customers‟ buying intention of hybrid cars. Except for the Price of the car factor, this research has successfully determined that there were significant relationships between the remaining five factors and customers‟ buying intention, with resale value and resale market of the car being the most influential. The adverse environmental data and the significant findings outlined in this report provide invaluable indicators for individuals, automotive manufacturers and distributors, the private sectors as well as the government as the policies maker about the importance of conserving and preserving our environment from the potential climatic catastrophes. This report ascertains that one of the vital and effective solutions to this ever escalating air pollution and global warming threats is by way of promoting and increasing the level of hybrid cars adoption among Malaysian motorists. In this regard and in order to encourage more hybrid car sales, all parties concerned should initiate and intensify environmental awareness campaigns, explaining the benefits of driving hybrid cars, offering more affordable hybrid car models to the potential consumers as well as reducing the costs of servicing, replacement parts and the rechargeable battery cells carried in the hybrid cars.
