Title Employees’ behavior of an operation department in a Japanese trading company. / Tan Yee Kuan.
Abstract This research examined the individual behavior in operation department with others department in a Japanese trading company. In general perception, Japanese company is taking care of employees and therefore employees work longer tenure for more than 10 years, does this general perception applies to this Japanese trading company? There are 8 employees in Malaysia’s office and 2 employees in Singapore’s office were interviewed in this study. Because the top management in Malaysia and Singapore was not approved this study to conduct in office, thus it had gone through lunch meeting with these employees with time limitation. During the lunch meeting, some employees didn’t disclose more information, because they think it is not under company instruction and worry the information will misuse for another purpose. However, majority provided the information and expressed their feeling. Although it was not supported by the management, but this study is a good start to understand behind the scenes of employees’ behavior. It may be used in future or present to the management in Japan to let them understand the problem happened. The result reveals that quality management is more concern by all employees, 9 without quality management it created the distortion in employees’ relationship and affected the services tenure of employees. This study provided the implication of quality management, and also given a testimonial from another Japanese company to support the concept. It also provided how important of internal communication in an organization which is related to organizational goals. This study may serve as guidance to the management to improve the way in managing the organization as well as human resources management in order to achieve the organizational goals and improve the staff retention rate.
