Abstract
Flood remain a major threat of natural disaster in Klang Valley in spite of the various mitigation programs were introduced by the federal government (e.g. SMART Tunnel) and local authority (e.g. creating more water retention ponds) for the past two decades. The objective of this case study is to identify the factors that could cause the floods in Klang Valley and what we shall do to mitigate these flood disasters (i.e. before, during and after). Hence, we could ensure that the devastative flood disaster experienced by the people in Bangkok last year (2011) will not happen in Klang Valley.
This case study is a descriptive research and will be carried out through qualitative approach to get a better understanding of the major factors that may lead to the flood disaster in Klang Valley and what are the roles of all the stakeholders reside in Klang Valley e.g. the ordinary residents as individual, the federal government as well the various ministries, the local authorities and the relevant non-profit organizations on flood disaster mitigation.
