Title Are we happy yet? job satisfactiion and commitment among health care worker in community clinics. / Teoh, See Wie
Abstract This study examines the current job satisfaction level, job commitment and the relationship between job commitments with the predictors of job satisfaction among health care worker in community clinic. It also examines if the age has moderating effect in the relationship between the job commitments with the predictors for job satisfaction. 141 staffs from various community clinics voluntarily participated in the study. Data were gathered by survey questionnaire that consisted of a series of psychometrically sound scales to examine the various variables in the study. To analyse the responses from the questionnaire, hierarchical regression analysis was used. The result suggested that the health care workers were satisfied and committed on their current job. The most significant factors to motivate employees were working condition, pay and benefit. Both of these factors had significant positive relationship statistically with general job satisfaction. In the other hand, none of the predicting factors had significant relationship with job commitment. Age factor had significant moderating effect on the relationship of satisfaction towards managerial issue and working condition with the affective commitment. The findings of this study indicate that the motivational needs of health care employee is still situated at the low level of Maslow’s motivational needs pyramid, which is belongingness level. This study also indicates that the community health care workers have similar organisation behaviour, which is consistent to custodial model. Pay and benefit is the important attractions to continue motivate them. This result indicates that the Ministry of Health should focus to strengthen the current satisfaction on belongingness level, and help to push the satisfaction need to higher level to attained longer and sustainable satisfaction.
