Abstract The aim of this research is to investigate the determinants of pre-school teacher retention in the early childhood industry and to recommend the appropriate strategy for retaining pre-school teachers. The research begins with the introduction, background of the study and a review of literature relevant to the factors that influence pre-school teacher retention, followed by the methods used in the study, discussion of the data analysis and the key findings. Lastly, researcher comes out couples of recommendation, future research and conclusion to close up the entire research. Primary data on retention factors was collected from 100 pre-school teachers from Klang Valley by means of a questionnaire survey. The findings have revealed training and development, rewards and compensation, empowerment, job burnout and working environment were significant correlated to job satisfaction, the mediator. The job satisfaction was positively related to pre-school retention. This study will serve as a guide to pre-school management in choosing factors to consider when designing the appropriate retention strategy for their schools.
