Title Factors that contribute towards Malaysia Airlines cabin crew motivation and productivity level. / Harkiran Kaur Utam Singh.
Abstract The reason I did my paper on Malaysia Airlines flight crew is because I have been a flight crew with MAS for 25 years before I left and I understand how MAS is managed and how the work process flow of the flight crew are. I understand the current difficulties that the flight crew are going through and I hope my paper will be able to help the airline to see how important to have good working conditions to enhance productivity and to increase the motivational levels. Before I started my study, I too assume that it would be rewards or money matters that may increase the crew’s productivity but during the analysis, 2 Hypothesis were rejected as it was not a significant factor. Welfare was not so important compared to the quality of life . Currently the work environment has caused many changes as new policies have been implemented and manpower being cut down. Despite that, the cabin crew are still dedicated towards making their customers satisfied and are still passionate about their job as a cabin crew. The one thing that the Malaysia Airlines crew has compared to other airlines is humility. With the study, it shows that drastic measures will influence other related factors and will impact the cabin crew. The management has to use a different approach all together to give the cabin crew a balance life. The turnaround rate is high among the Generation Y but not the seniors. If trainings are conducted for the young generation to make them think like leaders, it will make them more responsible and will empower them to make right decisions onboard flights. I’m sure the management will be able to redesign the rosters and increase manpower on flights at least for safety reasons. Malaysia Airline has much potential as it has the right workforce. If the company sees the flight crew as their assets than they will be able to work around their stringent policies to reduce negative impact and use employee engagements methods in ways that can bring the gap closer. Motivation is in a person’s inner drive and MAS will gain if they work towards bringing it out.
