Abstract
|
Business Development personnel or Sales and Marketing personnel can make better decisions
in a fast-changing and cyclical market, such as the tapioca starch market or the Fructose syrup
market, by using system-dynamics models. The system-dynamics model of supply and
demand developed by Joseph Whelan and KamilMsefer (1996) will be used to explore the
dynamics of supply and demand of tapioca starch. Then, the behavior of the market will be
tested by using the model under two different scenarios with particular concerns to three
major components in the market: supply, demand, and price. The input parameters such as
price, demand quantity, and supply quantity are derived from Thai Tapioca Starch
Association. The study results reveal the major determinants that affect the market price and
demand and unforeseen dynamics. System dynamics is a powerful framework to study supply
and demand.
