Title Antecedents and consequences of avoidance of face to face performance appraisal interview / Tan Sue Lin
Abstract This research paper is aimed at determining the main factors that caused manager to avoid face to face performance appraisal interview and the consequences of such avoidance. Chapter 1 introduced the background of the study company as well as the justification of conducting the research for this company. Problem statement, research questions and research objectives were defined. The research methodologies selected for this study are quantitative method and qualitative method. Furthermore, this chapter explained the scope, contribution, assumption and limitation of the study. Chapter 2 clarified the definition of the independent variables, such as performance appraisal interview, time constraint, indifferent attitude and my-way mindset. Subsequently, it defined the meaning of the dependent variables, such as employee satisfaction, employee engagement and employee turnover. A system theory and model of performance appraisal interview were presented in the paper. This chapter also explained the empirical relationship between the independent variables and dependent variables. Hypotheses and theoretical framework were presented subsequently. Meanwhile, the chapter gave a brief description on the Malaysian’s employee market as well as the level of job satisfaction and turnover in Malaysia. The chapter concluded with a summary of the definition of the key terms. Chapter 3 introduced the research methodologies of the study. It began with the discussion on the research paradigms and research design that governed the research activities. In addition, it discussed about the data collection procedure, data collection instruments as well as the statistical techniques that used for data analysis. Chapter 4 comprised of analysis, presentation and interpretation of the findings. A profile of the respondents was presented. Meanwhile, it also presented and interpreted the hypotheses results which generated from the factor analysis, internal consistency of scale and various statistical techniques. A summary of the hypotheses findings for this research was presented. Last but not least, it also gave an account of the findings of the secondary data. Chapter 5 discussed the overview of study and summary of the research findings. It offered recommendations to the management of the studied company for further improvement. The final section concluded the report by presenting the implications for future research study.
